Happy birthday to me

I have always wanted to do an evaluation of the past year. Since I didnt do it around New Year, it is a good time for it now.

I thought about it and decided the last year wasn't so bad after all. Though I carry two disorders behind my back as I end it, it was filled with some treats.

For instance, it has been like going through a treasure chest in music. I have discovered Brazilian Girls, Metric, Feist, Damien Rice, Lisa Ekdahl, Laleh, Amos Lee, Marianne Faithfull, Pulp, Nick Drake, Sigur Ros.
New albums of the year include: playing the angel by DM, XY by coldplay, Candan Ercetin's, yildizlarin altinda by Kargo, ask ölmez by Sertab Erener.
I have seen Tori live and enjoyed Beekeeper, exceptional artist, exceptional album. I have also experienced a Gotan Project event, which was "ok".
Line of discovery extends to the realm of classical music, which I have long neglected. I have discovered Schubert lieds mainly, Winterreise, Schöne Mullerin, etc.
In Turkish classical music, I have started exploring Zeki Muren's old recordings. There are two albums. One is the one in concert and the other is even older with songs you dont hear (nor do you understand, ie. lyricwise) I have been listening to Munir Nurettin, Muzeyyen Senar and Timur Selcuk as usual.

I have watched every existent episode of Six Feet Under, Lost and Desperate Housewives.

I have restarted reading. I have read yet-another Kundera, marvelous. The Disposssed and The compass rose by Ursula Le Guin. I have laid my hands on 3 female influences in Turkey, Alev Alatli, Ece Temelkuran and Elif Safak.

I went to the Stockholm Film Festival and for the first time I really felt like I had a life in Stockholm after all. (I had come close to this feeling when I went to the faithless concert last year...) I havent seen so many of them, but Dumplings was fun. It wasnt good but fun.

I have started my blogg and my web space, where I keep my playlists.

I think I have managed to make some analysis since summer so I feel like I have actually made progress as a whole.

I have met gods and goddesses of formal methods, M. Vardi, T. Nipkow, C. Stirling and of course O. Grumberg. I have seen A. Pnueli. I have met J. Harrison and M. Hoffman(?) I have heard about the great Martin-Löf. People talked to me continuously about CoAlgebra. I got instructed in Constructivism [intuitionistic logic], which is a natural relative of Computer Science.

As a scientist, I have come up with my own construction that builds up these curious structures from modal mu-calculus.

I have shopped lots and lots of great stuff, which I can not wear :(

I fulfilled another dream by visiting Prag, the city of Kundera. I have also been to Copenhagen, Munich and Rauma as new cities. I started discovering Istanbul. I now know where Emirgan, Bebek, Kadikoy, Besiktas are. I have been to museums in all these cities except Rauma, and there I have been to a night club.

I started sailing, wind surfing and skiing. Advanced on chinese checkers. Swam 2,5 km for the first time. Swam in Stockholm's sea (maybe I actually swam in Mälaren) for the first time. Cooked with coconut milk.

I have had my first Mojito.

Made contact with the new generation (BT, K, A) and the old (N). Lost all my ex's. Havent made new ones.

I changed my department (my office, my collegues, my default language)

I have been everywhere between 57 and 67. I have been the most popular and the loneliest. I have been the top and the bottom. It was an ordinary year, that is.
